New Time-Saving Mobile Data Terminals

April 30th, 2013

Blue Cab, a Taxi Service in Forest Park, is happy to announce new time-saving devices are being installed in all their vehicles. The driver will now be connected to the dispatcher at all times for faster dispatching on customer calls and to ensure the closest available cab is the one being dispatched. By knowing the exact location of all vehicles, the dispatcher will be able to provide more accurate wait times to the customer when the cab is dispatched. The Vector 5000 Mobile Data Terminals with a 4.3” color LCD precision touch screen are specifically designed for 24X7 in-vehicle environments making them easy to use and ensuring they do not get in the way of clear vision. The terminals will provide turn-by-turn navigation for added driver efficiency which will save the customer time and money. The device will also allow the driver to accept credit cards as a form of payment, so there will be no need to carry around large amounts of cash in order to acquire a taxi ride.

The Mobile Data Terminals are equipped with GPS for added asset security. The GPS will eliminate the need for manual trip sheets which will keep the drivers on the road instead of parked to fill out paperwork. The tracking of driving patterns through GPS will help to reduce redundant trips and ensure the best route is used to get from point A to point B, therefore reducing carbon emissions and wasted fuel. The real-time GPS will notify the driver if there are traffic jams, offering alternative routes to get where you are going faster. The added convenience of tracking which cab might have the forgotten laptop or suitcase in the back seat is a plus for the driver and customer. In an emergency situation, the direct connection to the dispatcher will allow either the driver or the passenger to call for help faster which saves precious time.

The Operator of the Year awards were conferred at the opening of the general session and the Outstanding Contributor to Women in Transportation Award and Industry Service Awards also were awarded. Blue Cab’s very own, Jerilyn Ugaste, was one of the recipients of this prestigious award!

During the business meeting portion of the convention plans were outlined for how William Rouse will proceed in his term as President.  One of his goals is to continue to fight against rogue apps used to hail cabs that ignore or disregard regulations that are put in place for public safety.  Working on distracted driving legislation and promoting the new Driver Education Program were also highlighted as goals for the coming year along with the education of members around technologies that help to keep a competitive edge. The year should be a productive one for sure.

On the second day the well-attended breakout sessions explored topics like the How the New Federal Transportation Law Affects You and Strategies for Delivering Peak Demand Taxi Service. Many important topics were explored during these smaller discussions.

The Trade Show also set a record as the second largest with twenty-two vehicles and a whopping ninety-three display booths.  Survey respondents rated the exhibits at 99%

Sponsorship for various convention items such as badge holders and hotel room key cards as well as the breakfast and dinners were shared by various sponsors.  The amazing support made the convention possible.  With the excitement barely dying down, plans are already underway for the 95th Annual Convention &Trade Show to be held in Boston on October 27-31, 2013.

BLUE CAB SALUTES JERILYN UGASTE – OUR PRESIDENTIAL WINNER!

October 9th, 2012

Why is she Presidential?

She’s been running Blue Cab since 1979; that’s longer than any Presidential term anywhere!

Why is she a winner?

She’s just won the prestigious 2012 Outstanding Contributor to Women in Transportation award from the Taxicab, Limousine and Paratransit Association’s Women in Transportation Committee.

Why is that worth a salute?

The TLP award tells the corporate world that she’s a woman who knows the taxi and limo business better than just about anybody, and she’s a leader in a job field that’s almost always been dominated by the men.

That doesn’t bother her at all, by the way.  Never did.  When she broke into the business at 16, she was working part-time in the office.  She had to wear her dad Charles Ugaste practically into the ground to get a position at Blue Cab.  She did.

But she wanted to do a lot more than that.

She wanted to take Blue Cab up the corporate ladder, and have the business grow, achieve and succeed more than ever before.

She did.

Blue Cab now has four cab companies, a package delivery service, an auto repair shop, a construction company and several of the richest slices of real estate pie out there.   More holdings equal more success.

She wanted to bring Blue Cab into the 21st century.

She did.

Blue Cab was one of the first companies to invest in computer dispatching systems and cameras for driver safety, providing better quality service, quicker driving times and more efficient workers (because the safer you feel, the better and harder you work).   Faster cabs and better drivers equal more success.

She wanted to make a difference for women—and about women—in the breakneck business world.

She did.

She increased the participation, visibility and especially the influence of women in corporate America through her astounding leadership and management, her innovations in the taxicab and limo business and her ongoing community service.

In other words, she leads up the ladder, she empowers those she meets, and she gives back.  That’s success times three right there.

Leadership, innovation and service.  That’s Jerilyn’s formula for being a Presidential winner.

We think that’s worth a big salute.
